Spring and early summer (April through June) are often the most pleasant for visiting Paris. Days are mild and increasingly sunny, parks and gardens bloom, and outdoor café life returns. Expect some crowds around major sights, especially from late May onward, but lines are generally shorter than in peak summer. High summer (July and August) brings long daylight hours, lively street life, and many outdoor events. Tradeoffs include larger crowds, higher prices, and occasional heat spells that make midday museum visits more appealing than walking all day. Many locals take August holidays, so some smaller shops and restaurants may be closed. Autumn and winter offer quieter streets and a more intimate city experience. September to November delivers crisp air, golden light for photography, and fewer visitors at popular attractions, with an increase in rainy days. December through February can be chilly with short days, festive lights and lower travel costs; packing warm layers, a compact umbrella, and comfortable shoes is advisable year-round.
