It’s a quieter shoulder season—good for hiking, cycling and fewer crowds; local spring events and trail openings begin. Summer (Jun–Aug): Warmest (typically 12–20°C) with long daylight and dry spells. Peak tourism for walking, mountain biking, canoeing and outdoor festivals; expect busier accommodation and attractions. Autumn (Sep–Nov): Crisp, cooler days and vivid autumn colours. A calmer shoulder season ideal for photography and wildlife watching (red deer rut in Oct); fewer crowds and occasional food or village events. Winter (Dec–Feb): Cold with regular snow on the Cairngorms—best for skiing, snowboarding and winter walking. Quieter overall except school-holiday/ski peaks and festive New Year events; book early if visiting for snow sports.
