Spring (Mar–May): Mild (about 5–15°C), blossoms and fewer crowds. Off-peak except for Royal Shrovetide (Feb/Mar) — a unique, hectic two-day mob-football event — book early. Great for quieter walking in the Peak District. Summer (Jun–Aug): Warmest (15–22°C), best for hiking, cycling and alfresco cafés. Peak season: busy weekends, higher accommodation prices, local summer fairs and outdoor events. Autumn (Sep–Nov): Cool (5–15°C) with colourful foliage and quieter trails. Off-peak midweek; pleasant for country drives and photography. Some harvest and village fêtes occur on weekends. Winter (Dec–Feb): Cold and wet (0–8°C). Generally off-peak with lower prices, except festive Christmas markets and local “Victorian/Lighting” events; cosy pubs and shorter daylight make it a calmer visit.
